Four police officers were injured on the streets of Belfast last night during riots.

The fighting started on the city’s 'Golden Mile' area, between the city centre and Queen’s University, at about 2am.

The trouble lasted about an hour. One police officer is in hospital with head injuries. Six men were arrested.

Also in Belfast, a row erupted after loyalist residents in the east of the city erected a camera and floodlight on a rooftop overlooking houses in the Short Strand Catholic area.

The Protestant residents refuse to remove the equipment. The camera was connected to a television monitor which relayed a picture of the family’s back yard and a view of the nationalist side of the peaceline.
