A mother is receiving attention after the death of a newborn baby in County Laois.

A mother is receiving attention after the death of a newborn baby in County Laois.

Gardai were called to the scene in Mountrath where they found the body of a newborn boy alongside his mother who was said to be in a distressed state.

It’s expected that a post mortem will take place on the body later on today in Laois.

The State Pathologist Dr John Harbison will examine the remains of the boy to identify the cause of death.

The mother has been taken to hospital where she is getting medical attention.
