New proposals to save sub-post offices
New proposals have been tabled in Government that could save the country’s sub post offices, many of which are facing an uncertain future.
It could mean the survival of up to 1,600 sub post offices nationwide with the introduction of customer services, such as motor tax renewals to the payment of taxes.
If implemented the recommendations will allow members of the public to conduct any business with the State.
These recommendations also include the provision of banking services.
From the beginning of August AIB customers will be able to make lodgements and withdrawals from their accounts, under a real deal reached with An Post last November.
The Irish Postmaster’s Union is calling on the Government to implement the plan as soon as possible to ensure the maximum survival of the Post Office network.
