National Day of Commemoration today
The National Day of Commemoration ceremony takes place in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, in Dublin today.
The Ceremony is to honour all the Irish men and women who died in past wars, or in the service of the United Nations. It is a chance for everyone to acknowledge those who gave their lives in active service.
It will be attended by President Mary McAleese, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern as well as representatives of the Government diplomatic core, and the Dail and Seanad.
Also in attendance will be the relatives of those who died in UN service, relatives of the 1916 leaders, and of course, members of the public.
