The Consumer Association chairman Michael Kilcoyne has come out in opposition to the Taoiseach’s defence of the new medical bill increases.

He maintains it is inexcusable for the Department of Health to match the increased medical fees GP’s have awarded themselves.

"It's unacceptable for the minister to take figures off the top of his head, and impose increases on the ordinary consumer," says Kilcoyne.

He added: "It's just not acceptable, because workers have not been able to get those kinds of increases in their wages, and it's going to lead to further wage demands."
