One killed and five injured in car accidents

A pensioner has died following a two-car collision at Rathangan, Co Kildare.

The name of the elderly person, who is believed to be from the locality, has not been released.

Meanwhile, five people are recovering in hospital after an accident close to Powerstown, Leighlinbridge in Co Carlow.

The accident occurred shortly after 10.30pm last night.

Three ambulance crews and two units of the Bagnelstown fire brigade attended the scene.
