Two men in court after ‘Chinese gangs’ fatal fight’

Two men appeared in court today in connection with a clash between rival Chinese groups which left one man dead and two seriously injured.

Wen Xion Zheng, 20, and Xiu Chun Wang, 26, were each charged with possession of a knife after up to 50 men battled with machetes, cleavers and a handgun in Dublin.

Both men, who live in Dublin, were remanded in custody by Dublin District Court.

Police believe two gangs may have planned the fight in advance, going armed to a Chinese cultural event at a city centre pub.

Detectives said they were still seeking 40 people for questioning.

One man was taken to hospital with a knife wound to the neck after the violent confrontation but later died.

Two more were admitted to separate city hospitals. One had stab wounds and the other head injuries both were in a serious condition, police said.

Three men who were arrested in the vicinity of the fight were tonight being detained at Store Street Garda Station where they were being questioned about possible immigration offences, a police spokesman said.

Another man, also arrested in the area, faced Dublin District Court separately today, on immigration charges for failing to give his identity.
