Decision due on birth cert sex change

A landmark decision is due in the High Court this afternoon to determine whether changes can be made to the birth certificate of a transsexual.

Dr Lydia Foy fathered two children before having a sex-change operation in 1992 and wants her birth cert altered to say that she was really born female.

The 54-year-old dentist from Athy, Co Kildare says she is and always was female, despite being born with external male genitalia.
