Concerns raised over airline security

Two airline companies that operate services out of Ireland are coming under pressure over lax security arrangements.

Workers from the Air France and Cityjet airlines are currently involved in a dispute with management and they claim that security has been seriously undermined since the strike began.

The trade union, SIPTU, says that passenger safety at Dublin Airport is under threat because of the loose security checks that are being applied to new employees at the two companies.

The union claims that workers that were brought in during a ground staff dispute at Cityjet have not been subjected to the standard security checks or safety training.

The new staff are given easy access to aircraft without being subjected to background checks or searches which are supposed to be standard.
