Paisley calls for peaceful Drumcree
The leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, the Reverend Ian Paisley, says that he hopes there will be no violence at the upcoming Orange Parade at Drumcree.
The small village has become the centre of the world’s attention for the past few summers as Loyalist marchers were involved in a series of stand-offs with soldiers, police and residents as they attempted to walk through a Catholic area to Drumcree Church.
The march at Drumcree has become a symbolic clash and the most heated of the entire marching season which has been littered with violent clashes.
Speaking at an Orange Parade in Oldcastle, Co Louth today, Mr Paisley said that Orangemen still have a right to walk the Garvaghy Road but that violence should not be a factor in the dispute.
