Acting Chief Constable of the PSNI, Colin Cramphorn, has described the loyalist and republican paramilitary threat as ‘very real’ last year, and was reflected in the rise in shootings and bombings.

The Acting Chief said that unprecedented levels of violence on the streets, particularly in North Belfast, had tarnished Northern Ireland's image around the world.

He revealed that 17 people had lost their lives as a direct result of the security situation during the year to the end of March.
