The European Commission today decided to take Ireland and France to the European Courts for not conducting enough inspections of ships entering their ports.

The European Commission today decided to take Ireland and France to the European Courts for not conducting enough inspections of ships entering their ports.

With an eye toward reducing the number of accidents caused by substandard ships, a 1995 EU directive requires member states to inspect at least 25% of ships using its ports each year.
