Dublin traffic proposal heavily criticised

IBEC, the Vintners Association and the grocers’ body RGDATA have joined forces to oppose a new traffic initiative proposed by Dublin Corporation.

The initiative would establish a two-hour window during which all commercial deliveries to the city centre would have to be completed.

Reg McCabe, IBEC’s director of transport, said the plan is unworkable.

"We have examined [the proposals] very closely and our conclusion is that because you’re squeezing a 10-hour delivery pattern into a two-hour window, the implications of that is you’re going to increase the amount of traffic congestion," he said.

"The whole thing is counter-productive."
