Opposition parties are calling on the Government to apologise for describing people opposed to the Nice Treaty as whingers and scaremongers.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, made the controversial comments while attending the EU Summit at Seville yesterday and has been criticised by leaders of the Green Party and the Labour Party as well as members of Sinn Fein and the Socialist Party.
