The Department of Foreign Affairs has advised Irish tourists on holiday in Spain to be vigilant following a bomb attack in the southern resort of Fuengirola today.

A car bomb exploded in the town at around 7am local time, injuring six people.

Two further explosions were also reported and part of the west of the town was evacuated.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the finger of blame immediately pointed towards the Basque separatist group ETA, which has been fighting for independence in northern Spain and southern France since 1959.
