A murder trial jury was tonight sent to a hotel for the second night after failing to reach a verdict in the case of a Co Clare man accused of murdering a young deaf man.

Michael Sage, aged 26, of Glenacre, Killaloe, Co Clare has pleaded not guilty to the murder but guilty to the manslaughter of John Carroll, aged 22, of Cappamore, Co Limerick on December 4 1998 at Garraun, Newport, Ballinahinch, Co Tipperary.
