RTE suspend football analyst Dunphy
Controversial football analyst Eamonn Dunphy has been sensationally suspended from RTE’s World Cup coverage this evening.
A short time ago the station released a statement saying that Mr Dunphy was unable to fulfil the terms of his contract with RTE and he was being suspended.
This is the latest twist in a lengthening saga surrounding the newspaper columnist and television and radio presenter.
Mr Dunphy was the most vocal supporter of Roy Keane when the Irish captain was sent home from Mick McCarthy’s squad before the World Cup began.
His outspoken defence of the Manchester United star included him calling for Irish people to support Cameroon and even Germany instead of Ireland in the World Cup.
In the statement released by RTE the company said that Mr Dunphy had been suspended for an unspecified length of time but no reason for the action was given.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the action had been taken solely out of his appearance on the World Cup show this morning.
Mr Dunphy has refused to comment on the incident saying only that he had only heard of the news in the past hour.
