Case adjourned as witness with soccer squad

A case listed for trial in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court had to be adjourned as a key prosecution witness is working with the Irish soccer team at the World Cup.

A case listed for trial in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court had to be adjourned as a key prosecution witness is working with the Irish soccer team at the World Cup.

Prosecuting counsel Mr Brendan Mulhall BL told Judge Patrick McCartan the case could not go ahead as a Dr Coolan Hooper was in Japan with the Irish delegation to the World Cup.

Judge McCartan asked whether the doctor was with the Roy Keane team or the regular team.

Mr Mulhall said he did not know when Dr Hooper would be returning and Judge McCartan adjourned the case for mention on June 25 to ascertain if all witnesses would be available for the trial.

Judge McCartan later told the jury panel that while they were required for further of selection of juries tomorrow, they need not be concerned about missing the efforts of '11 of our athletes" as provisions

would be made for those selected to see Ireland's match against Germany in its entirety.
