Wheel clampers arrested

More than a dozen wheel clampers were arrested today for staging an unofficial strike.

The employees of Control Plus were detained after they attempted to stop vans from leaving a compound in Dublin.

Some 117 members of the 120-strong team have been taking part in industrial action since Monday amid complaints that promotion procedures were being ignored by management.

The strikers claimed that they were ordered back to work or face the sack, prompting today’s picket.

Gardai moved in at around lunchtime to remove between 30 and 40 workers who were blocking the gates.

The industrial action has led to supervisors and even a company accountant operating Dublin’s clamping service for the last five days.

No-one at the firm was available for comment.
