Murder hunt Lithuanians face immigration questioning

Two Lithuanian men released without charge after being quizzed by police over a double murder in Northern Ireland were today being questioned by immigration officials on suspicion of entering the country illegally.

The pair were arrested on Friday after the bodies of two men were discovered dumped by a roadside in Warrenpoint.

The victims had suffered head injuries and had been stabbed.

The men were released without charge last night but were re-arrested soon afterwards in relation to immigration offences.

The two men had been in police custody since being arrested in Newry, Co Down on Friday. A third man who was also detained was released the next day.

A huge murder inquiry was launched after a man walking his dog found the two bodies near a golf course last Wednesday.

Crew records on all ships to have docked at Warrenpoint harbour were checked as police tried to identify the dead men.

One of them has been identified as Lithuanian, and it is thought that the second was also from the Baltic state.
