Police continue questioning in murder probe

Police were today still questioning two men about a brutal double murder in Northern Ireland.

Detectives arrested both men, thought to be from Lithuania, on Friday after the bodies were discovered dumped by a roadside in Warrenpoint, County Down.

The two victims had suffered horrific head injuries.

One of them has been identified as Lithuanian, and it is thought that the second was also from the Baltic state.

The two men being questioned were arrested in Newry, Co Down on Friday. A third man who was also detained was released the next day.

On Saturday a magistrate granted detectives a 36-hour extension to hold the pair.

This was extended again yesterday, giving officers until 10.30pm today to question the men.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman today confirmed that the pair were still being questioned.

A huge murder inquiry was launched after a man walking his dog found the two bodies near a golf course last Wednesday.

Crew records on all ships to have docked at Warrenpoint harbour were checked as police tried to identify the dead men.
