Fianna Fail's Jim McDaid has been elected on the first count in Donegal North East.

Fianna Fail's Jim McDaid has been elected on the first count in Donegal North East.

The Sports Minister topped the poll with 9,614 votes - 527 votes over the quota.

Fianna Fail has 46.5% of first preferences, according to the tallies, which should see Mr McDaid's running mate Cecilia Keaveney taking the second seat.

The third seat is still to play for.
