Police hope to identify golf course bodies

Police in Northern Ireland were today still trying to identify two men whose bodies were discovered at a roadside near a golf course.

A major security operation was launched yesterday after a man out for a walk spotted a body in heavy undergrowth outside Warren Point, Co Down.

Police sealed off the area on Mound Road, close to Narrow Water Bridge on the main road to Newry.

They first confirmed the discovery of one body and later a second, thought to have been lying directly beneath the first.

The bodies remained at the scene while Army bomb disposal experts checked the area for booby traps.

One of the bodies was clothed in a zip-up green red and blue striped cardigan and there was a gold earring in the left ear, police said.

Police investigating the discovery appealed for anyone who recognised the description, or anyone with concerns about a missing relative or friend, to contact them.

The back nine holes of Warren Point Golf Course, close to the scene, were closed while the security operation continued.
