Taoiseach backs McDaid

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has refused to sack Donegal TD Jim McDaid from the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation over his recent comments on suicide.

Mr McDaid told a youth conference that suicide is selfish and cowardly and both Fine Gael and the Labour Party have demanded the minister’s resignation.
