Survey shows 20% of bullying victims contemplate suicide
One in five secondary school pupils who are bullied contemplate suicide, according to a survey in the north-east.
More than 1,000 12 to 16-year-olds in Co Louth, Co Meath, Co Cavan and Co Monaghan took part in the survey.
The study also showed that half of people who are frequently bullied thought of suicide and that most victims are afraid to tell parents or teachers about it.
Health board psychiatrist Marie Lawlor said: "It’s a problem that needs to be dealt with at a range of levels simultaneously."
