Business groups call for action on insurance

Organisations representing Irish business interests have joined forces to call for action to address the rising cost of insurance.

Organisations representing Irish business interests have joined forces to call for action to address the rising cost of insurance.

14 associations are involved in the Business Insurance Alliance, which claims that some businesses have been forced to close because of exorbitant insurance costs.

The Irish Road Haulage Association, which is part of the group, said it wants the recent report by the Motor Insurance Advisory Board to be acted upon.

"[The insurance firms] have to be answerable to us to a degree and we’re hoping, with the strength of this lobby, that we can monitor the implementation of the recommendations set out in the advisory report," said spokesman Gerry McMahon.
