Junior Minister Mary Hanafin has admitted that the Government has difficulty keeping juvenile detention places open, but she has defended the coalition’s record on the issue.

Ms Hanafin said 30 of these places are currently closed, but for necessary refurbishment to bring them up to standard. She also admitted that the Government has had problems recruiting and retaining staff to work in juvenile detention centres.
