Slain Garda's remains to return home

The remains of Garda Michael Padden, who was killed with his colleague by a speeding stolen car on Sunday, will be brought home to Co Mayo today.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at Mount Angus church in Harold's Cross last night when 27-year-old Garda Padden's body was removed.

Paying tribute to the young Garda, Fr Joe Kennedy said the tragedy reminds us of the important role the force plays in our society.

The removal of 53-year-old Garda Anthony Tighe takes place in the same church this evening.
