A murder investigation has been launched after a man was gunned down in front of his 11-year-old stepdaughter in an apparent gangland killing yesterday.

An 18-year-old youth has admitted causing the death of two gardaí when the stolen sports car he was driving rammed into their patrol car.

THERE were calls yesterday for steps to be taken to reinforce garda patrol cars following the latest joyriding incident, which left two officers injured.

The remains of Garda Michael Padden, who was killed with his colleague by a speeding stolen car on Sunday, will be brought home to Co Mayo today.
