Two applications received in search for chief constable

Just two people are believed to have applied for the job of chief constable in the North’s police force following the resignation of Ronnie Flanagan earlier this year.

The closing date for applications was yesterday, but with only two people interested in the post, the Police Board may be forced to re-advertise the job in the hope of attracting more applications.

Both applicants for the £130,000 (€212,000)-per-year position are believed to be serving officers in the PSNI and one is believed to be Alan McQuillan, currently the assistant chief constable for Belfast.

The second is believed to be Englishman Chris Albiston, who joined the RUC 13 years ago and recently returned from working in Kosovo.
