Dr Walsh, the auxiliary Bishop of Dublin, has been one of the main figures leading the push to eradicate paedophilia and sex abuse in the priesthood.

He said that, in his caretaker capacity as Bishop of Ferns, he will fully co-operate with whatever instrument of inquiry is deemed most appropriate in the search for the truth about clerical abuse in Wexford.

Dr Walsh also said he will do his best to address the questions of child abuse victims and their families.
