An opinion poll published this morning suggests that Fine Gael could lose a seat in Wexford in the upcoming general election.

The IMS poll predicts that Fianna Fail will take three seats in the constituency, with Fine Gael’s Avril Doyle and Labour’s Brendan Howlin taking the other two.

Fine Gael currently has two seats in Wexford, but the poll predicts that Fianna Fail’s Tony Dempsey will take Michael D’Arcy’s seat.

In a separate question contained in the poll, 80% of respondents said they would prefer the election to be held on a weekend.

89% of respondents also said they believe the Catholic Church has not done enough to handle child sex abuse scandals which led to the resignation of Bishop Brendan Comisky at the weekend.
