Irish peacekeeper injured in clash with Hezbollah
An Irish soldier on peacekeeping duties in south Lebanon has been injured in a confrontation with Hezbollah forces.
He was among a group of four UN peacekeeping troops who were set upon by the guerillas in a disputed area in the south of the country.
Defence Forces spokesman Commandant Kieran McDaid says his injuries are not life-threatening.
"Our officer sustained head injuries, and the others sustained broken limbs.
"He received medical attention from members of the Indian battalion who are stationed in that part of Lebanon, and he has been evacuated now to the UNIFIL headquarters hospital."
