Anti-Sellafield postcard campaign gets underway

The Irish campaign to close Sellafield is being stepped up this weekend. An estimated 1.3 million Irish postcards are being prepared for posting to England next month.

The cards will be sent to British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Prince Charles and Norman Askew, the head of British Nuclear Fuels, to seek the closure of the Cumbrian plant.

Ali Hewson, the wife of U2 lead singer Bono, is backing the campaign. She says the next target will be Irish voters who live in Britain.

"We want to get everyone in England who is a British citizen with Irish roots to use their vote and make it an election issue to make everyone listen."
