Gardai recapture escaped Cork prisoner

A prisoner who escaped from custody in Cork on Wednesday has been recaptured.

Niall Fitzpatrick had managed to give gardai the slip while he was appearing in court.

He was arrested around 6am this morning by armed detectives who raided a flat on the Southern road in Cork City.

They were part of the garda hunt, which got underway after his escape.

Fitzpatrick was remanded in custody until Wednesday during a brief hearing at Cork District Court.
