Norway joins Ireland in Sellafield battle
Enterprise Minister Mary O’Rourke has stated Ireland is determined to have Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant shut down.
Minister O’Rourke is in Oslo to collaborate with the Norwegians on a bid to have the issue of radioactive discharges into the Irish Sea raised at a conference of North Sea nations next week.
Norway is worried about the effects the plant’s discharges are having on its multi-million euro seaweed and fishing industries.
After a meeting with Norway’s environment minister, Borge Brende, Mrs O’Rourke said she will be legally pursuing the closure of Sellafield.
