Geraldine Finucane rejects ‘cynical’ settlement offer
Relatives of murdered Catholic solicitor Pat Finucane have rejected a British Government offer of £10,000 (€16,200) for them to drop their European court action seeking a public inquiry into the 1989 killing.
The Finucane family said the offer was a cynical ploy designed to exonerate Britain from revealing the truth about the murder.
There have long been allegations that the British army, and by extension the British Government, colluded with the loyalist paramilitaries who shot Mr Finucane dead in front of his family at their home in Belfast.
Mr Finucane’s widow, Geraldine, is currently pursuing a case in the European Court of Human Rights alleging that the British authorities have failed to adequately investigate claims of official collusion in the murder.
