FG seeks Dail debate on Campus Ireland fiasco

Fine Gael is demanding a Dáil debate after it emerged yesterday that the company hired to run part of the controversial Campus Ireland is allegedly a ‘shelf company’ with assets of just stg£4.

Sports Minister Jim McDaid received a report into the matter last night. Fine Gael’s Bernard Allen said: "It’s simply unacceptable that €57m of taxpayer’s money can be committed by a Government to a major public project like this without knowing who is the beneficial owner of the company involved.

"We need answers to the questions we’re raising. Those answers need to be given in the Dáil and I would expect a pretty stormy session this afternoon if the Ceann Comhairle and the Government do not concede to the requests for a full-scale debate."
