Cyclists who use more than pedal power have tonight been told they can now get on their bikes without fear of a tax charge.

The Government has declared that electrically-assisted bicycles are not liable for motor tax. The announcement by Environment Minister Noel Dempsey follows a review of the status of the vehicles within the terms of our road traffic laws.
