Tanaiste denies rift over Euro 2008 bid

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has broken her silence over the latest row between the coalition partners surrounding Ireland’s bid to co-host the 2008 European Championships with Scotland.

The Tanaiste claims there are no differences between her and the Taoiseach on the matter.

Applications close tomorrow, but any joint application will depend on the Government’s approval of Stadium Ireland, because Ireland will have to provide two stadiums.

However, Ms Harney said: "There are two stadiums in Dublin. There's Croke Park and Lansdowne Road. That's what’s required to co-host the European Championships. And in relation to the Abbotstown project the Government agreed that there would be no decision on that matter made during the remaining life of this Government."
