Investigation launched into fatal rail accident near Belfast
Police in the North have launched an investigation into a train crash which left one contract worker dead and two others injured this morning.
The dead man, who worked for an English-based contractor, was laying a section of line in the early hours of this morning when an engineering train crashed into the back of a stationary train on the main Belfast to Bangor line.
The accident happened near the Sydenham Bypass, which was closed in both directions for a while, but has since reopened.
Translink, the company which operates the North’s railways, is also investigating the incident.
