It is 11 years since a once-off payment of £8m (€10.2m) was given to the 64 people who contracted the virus through contaminated blood products.

Despite repeated promises to redress the situation, no more money has been paid out.

Fine Gael and Labour have promised to immediately deliver on the issue if elected to office.

The IHS's Rosemary Daly said she had grown weary of sending endless submissions to the Government and that it was time for them to do what was morally and ethically right.
