Fianna Fail MEP Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher is expected to top the poll in Donegal south-west in the upcoming general election, according to an opinion poll conducted by TG4.

The survey predicts that Fianna Fail Junior Minister Mary Coughlan and Fine Gael’s Dinny McGinley will also retain their seats, meaning Mr Gallagher’s success will come at the expense of independent TD Tom Gildea.

The TG4 poll says Fianna Fail will take 55% of the vote and Fine Gael 21%. Mr Gallagher is predicted to get 31% of first preference votes, with Mr Gildea only expected to secure 5%.
