An American DC-10 aeroplane has made an emergency landing in Shannon Airport after smoke was detected in the cabin.

An American DC-10 aeroplane has made an emergency landing in Shannon Airport after smoke was detected in the cabin.

The incident happened as the aircraft was approaching Ireland just before 6pm.

The plane, which was en route from the US state of Maine to Cyprus with five people on board, managed to land safely.
