Southeast gets new coastguard helicopter

The southeast is to get a new 24-hour Coastguard helicopter service from July 1.

The southeast is to get a new 24-hour Coastguard helicopter service from July 1.

Minister of State, Hugh Byrne, said the new helicopter will have the ability to carry 15 survivors and will have a range of 470 miles.

The commitment to provide the service was given when four Aer Corps crew lost their lives in a crash in July 1999.
