Abandoned boat causes environmental worries

There are growing concerns that a boat that was abandoned in Dingle Harbour last night could cause serious pollution.

The coastguard helicopter based in Shannon is to take harbour officials and officers from the Kerry County Council to carry out a survey flight over the area this afternoon in order to establish if the boat does pose a risk to the environmental balance of the region.

The vessel was abandoned last night after the ten Spanish sailors on board were rescued; one of the sailors is still being treated in hospital for hypothermia.
