Alderman shot in his Co Limerick home
Limerick Alderman Michael Kelly is recovering in hospital after being shot at his home in Ballyneety, Co Limerick, early this morning.
Mr Kelly, a former criminal-turned-businessman who entered politics in 1999, alerted the Gardai himself following the incident at 3am.
Officers who called to the house found him lying at the bottom of the stairs. They said it appeared he was shot after answering his front door.
Mr Kelly’s lawyer said the attack was "unwarranted, unprovoked and unjustified".
