Harney flight to face EC inquiry

The European Commission is to investigate the Tanaiste's use of state aircraft to open a friend's off-licence in Co Leitrim.

Mary Harney, who has just returned from her honeymoon, has been criticised for using a fisheries protection plane to fly to Manorhamilton last month.

If the Tanaiste is found to be in breach of terms agreed with Brussels, millions of euro could be reclaimed by the Commission.
