Omagh accused back in court

The trial of the only person to be charged in connection with the Omagh bombing was resuming in Dublin today.

Colm Murphy, 49, from Dundalk, Co Louth, was returning to the dock of the Special Criminal Court charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion.

He denies the charge.

The court was set to hear two more days of closing submissions from Murphy’s barrister Michael O’Higgins SC (senior counsel).

The three judge panel would then retire to consider its verdict.

Murphy, a wealthy publican and building contractor, is charged with conspiring to cause an explosion likely to cause loss of life or serious injury to property during the weekend of the bombing.

The court has already heard the summing up by prosecution barrister Peter Charleton SC.
