The High Court has heard the opening arguments in the case of a pregnant Nigerian woman seeking to remain in Ireland despite a deportation order.

The High Court has heard the opening arguments in the case of a pregnant Nigerian woman seeking to remain in Ireland despite a deportation order.

Legal council for the woman has argued that the unborn child is a person under Irish law and is protected by the Constitution and should be afforded all necessary protection.

The State is expected to argue in the High Court that an unborn baby is not a person.
